More Than Just Makeup

It’s just a lipstick - an inexpensive treat. However, the joy it brings is immeasurable - especially when you are fighting a disease like cancer. Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd. is one of many supporters of the Look Good Feel Better - a program designed to support women living with the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment.

The program runs on a volunteer basis, with some1,800 volunteers across Canada. But did you know that most of the volunteers - more than 60% - are members of the Mary Kay independent sales force?

These generous women give their time in the more than 90 hospitals and cancer-care facilities across Canada that participate in the program and they’ve shared tips on cosmetics and makeup application with more than 450,000 women who have used the Look Good Feel Better Program.

“We are extremely proud of our independent sales force,” says Dawn Gerry, Mary Kay’s Director of Special Events, Recognition and Education. “These women manage their own successful business which is a full-time job in itself, and they still find time to give back to their community by generously sharing their most valuable resources -time and knowledge. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, but these women are out there helping others throughout the year.”

Apart from the grassroots support, Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd. also provides corporate support for the program as a member of the Canadian Cosmetics, Toiletries and Fragrance Association (CCTFA). The company provides product for Look Good Feel Better’s complementary tool kit provided to workshop participants. Financial support is provided through the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation (MKACF), with donations from the Mary Kay sales force, - which recently donated $30,000 to the program. President Ray Patrick presented the cheque to Elaine Browne, Vice-President, CCTFA Foundation & the Look Good Feel Better Program and Debra Hannah, Manager, Workshop Program, at Seminar, Mary Kay’s annual sales convention in July.

“While we as a company support this program,” says Gerry, “the independent sales force and their actions always inspire us. And as long as the need exists, we’ll continue to partner with Look Good Feel Better.”
