Older women who follow a series of diet and exercise guidelines are less likely to develop cancer, a new study reports, and the better they are about complying with the recommendations, the less likely they are to develop the disease.
The guidelines were published in 1997 by the American Institute for Cancer Research as a way to try to reduce the incidence of cancer. Among the 14 recommendations, people were advised to keep their weight down, take part in regular exercise, eat five or more servings of vegetables and fruit a day, and limit their intake of alcohol, red meat and sodium.
