Protect your skin this winter

While it might be too cold and rainy to consider leaving the house in January, following our tips can ensure that

although the weather is dull, your skin doesn’t have to be! We know the constant battering your skin receives from the wind and that central heating can leave it dry and lacklustre, but there are ways to ensure you can look fresh and healthy from New Year right through until summer.

A hot bath or shower might be tempting when it’s so cold outside but the effects on your skin can be detrimental. In the short term, it will dry your skin out, and in the long term hot water can even cause thread veins. So, while you might feel it’s the best way to warm up, try having a lukewarm bath or shower instead and applying a moisturiser straight after getting out in order to lock in moisture.

Don’t forget about keeping your skin well hydrated during the winter months by drinking lots of water. While this might come naturally when the sun is blazing, it is no less important during the colder months. Drinking at least 2 litres of water a day will keep your skin moisturised and flush out toxins, leaving your skin fresh and healthy looking.

Lipbalm is also important during the winter months as your lips can dry out extremely quickly when you’re moving between the cold streets and a centrally heated house. A lipbalm with SPF will not only keep your lips moisturised, but will also protect them from harmful winter rays.

And don’t forget about sunblock during the winter months as even on cloudy days UVB rays can penetrate. If you’re going skiing, remember that your exposure will be even greater so it is even more important to protect your skin.

The golden rule for protecting your skin during the winter is moisture so remember to do everything you can to supply moisture top your skin. Whether this is by using a humidifier, slathering yourself in moisturiser or just drinking more water, by keeping your skin moist you can protect it from winter’s harsh weather.

So even if you don’t want to venture out and face the cold, by following our tips you can ensure that your skin is glowing throughout the winter months.
