Anti ageing creams come of age thanks to “Retinol”
There have been numerous reports recently about miracle skin creams that can lessen the effects of ageing, and in April we reported that the BBC documentary Horizon has revealed the most effective anti-ageing cream available on the high street. The secret ingredient, retinol, has now been shown by another study to be extremely effective. As a number of our anti-ageing products contain retinol, it’s something we certainly agree with!
The University of Michigan did not name the cream they used, revealing only that it contained retinol, a Vitamin A component which features very richly in a number of products we stock in our clinic. A sample of people were recruited, and they then tested the retinol cream and a cream containing no retinol. At the end of the survey, significant improvements where noted where the retinol cream had been used.
The retinol was shown to improve the production of two skin components important in improving the appearance of the skin, helping rebuild the structure of the skin as well as plumping it up by retaining extra water.
And not only is the appearance of skin altered, but it is also believed that the rejuvenated skin may be able to withstand damage more effectively, which could help to slow the ageing process.
In the past, topical retinol creams to treat ageing have been available with prescription, but this is the first time creams with a retinol content have been available on the high street. However, the high street can only provide a relatively weak concentration of retinol. As a clinic, SkinGenesis sell Skin Therapy and Agera products which are rich in retinol.
So the next time you’re stocking up on a cream to help reverse the effects of time, take a closer look at the list of ingredients to ensure you’re getting the most effective treatment for your skin!
