Recipes for Skin Success-Homemade Facials

Don’t spend $75 to $150 on a facial at the spa when you can head into the kitchen for a fabulous homemade facial. You’ll find you already have many of the ingredients you need for tight, fresh, glowing skin.

Make sure your cupboards are stocked with fresh honey, olive oil, oatmeal, kosher salt and avocado. If you want the whole spa experience, fire up some candles, turn on some relaxing music and dim the lights.

If you have normal or combination skin, try this basic homemade facial. Mix one egg, 1/2 cup cooked instant oatmeal and a teaspoon olive oil until smooth. Spread on your face and leave 15 minutes then rinse.

For those with dry skin, mix one egg yolk, one teaspoon honey and a teaspoon olive oil. Smooth over your skin and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse in lukewarm water and pat dry. If you have vitamin E oil, try adding a few drops to this recipe.

Avocado can also help heal dry skin. Mash up one fresh avocado with a tablespoon of olive oil. Spread all over your face and neck and let sit for about 20 minutes.

Try honey for a quick facial that will keep your skin glowing all day. Rinse your face with warm water and pat dry. Spread the honey all over your face and leave on for 15 to 30 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and pat dry with a cold wash cloth.

For a deep down clean, exfoliate with kosher salt. Mix three tablespoons olive oil and one tablespoon kosher salt. Gently rub into dry skin and rinse. The key word with this facial is GENTLY! Remember, exfoliating can agitate and prolong a breakout or rash. Avoid exfoliating if you have any type of acne or extreme sensitivity.

To tighten skin, all you need is one beaten egg white. Spread the frothy egg white all over your skin and leave on until it dries.

Blend your facial for healthy skin. Add a 1/2 cup of oatmeal to the blender with lemon juice and a few splashes of milk and mix well. Apply to the face and neck and let sit for about 20 minutes. The lemon juice can help reduce the signs of age spots.

With all facials, test a small part of the skin before using to make sure you do not have any allergies. Behind the ear is a great testing ground. Also, only apply facials about twice a week giving your skin time to adjust in between applications.

To make these treatments from home complete, place cucumber slices on your eyes for a cooling, sensational spa experience!
