Spot on treatment for acne

Acne Treatment Drug

A previously unknown side effect of an unnamed drug currently on the marketplace could be useful for treating acne, reports Chemistry & Industry, the magazine of the SCI. A UK company is about to start a Phase 1 trial with the drug involving 18 healthy human volunteers and the results are expected to be announced later this year. In an earlier Phase 1 study in nine healthy human volunteers, the treatment was seen to reduce the excretion of sebum by the skin, which is associated with acne development, by up to 70%.

FDA Issues Warning For Illegal Sale Of Melanotan II

Melanotan II For Skin Tanning

FDA has issued a Warning Letter to Melanocorp for the illegal sale and marketing of the product Melanotan II, which is not FDA-approved, on Melanocorp’s Web site. FDA recommends that consumers who are currently using Melanotan II stop using this product and consult their health care provider if they have experienced any adverse events that they suspect are related to its use.

“This product is being marketed and sold illegally as a preventative against skin cancer and as a tanning agent,” said Steven Galson, M.D., M.P.H. director of FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. “Protecting the public from unapproved products such as this that make unsubstantiated claims and may pose a health risk is a top priority at the FDA.”
