Facial Deformity

With the popularity of fillers becoming mainstream, it’s no surprise people are looking for longer lasting alternatives to prevent facial wrinkles. Dr. Arnold Klein, world renowned cosmetic dermatologist with an active practice in Beverly Hills says, “Fillers such as Artefill, Radiesse and Sculptra contain injectable plexiglass, bone and suture material. When injected into tissue, all of these products can cause foreign body reactions,” Klein continued, “in which the body attacks these implants causing hard, red, painful and sometimes oozing nodules.”

Some Benefit from Acupuncture

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

The acupuncture and history goes like this, more than 2,000 years ago, Chinese healers discovered that manipulating certain points on the bodies of their patients seemed to make them feel a lot better. As they experimented, these healers began using sharpened stones to manipulate these points. These instruments eventually evolved into needles.

The philosophy behind acupuncture concerns the Qi (pronounced “chee”) or life-energy being in balance. When the Qi is out-of-balance or even blocked, a person will become physically or mentally ill. It is believed that energy flows along paths in the body called meridians, and that the energy can be tapped and influenced at certain points.

Chemical Peels: Fact vs. Fiction, Part I

by Skincare-news.com team

1. Fact – Always get a skin consultation before receiving any type of aggressive treatment on your face. Without an in-depth analysis of your skin type, it’s likely that you will schedule the incorrect chemical peel for your skin.

First, ask yourself – why do I need a peel? What is my skin type? How can a peel benefit my skin? It’s difficult to determine all of these things on your own, so consult a professional. Dermatologists, plastic surgeons, licensed estheticians or registered nurses can perform chemical peels. Remember, there is always a risk when trying something new on your skin. When going to a day spa, there should be a waiver or peel consent form to sign prior to your peel.

One approach is physical removal by surgery, microdermabrasion, or chemical peel. But many women prefer something gentler, and topical medications can help, reports the December 2007 issue of Harvard Women’s Health Watch.
